The Bikeport Brand

As with many, many other businesses, 2020 was a challenge for The Bikeport. Between the COVID-19 pandemic forcing declarations of emergencies and stay-at-home orders, to online service providers changing their terms of service with direct impacts on The Bikeport’s automated social media service delivery, to devastating personal news for Kevin Montgomery, it was difficult to offer meaningful service.

Development has started on a WordPress plug-in that will help to automate social media service delivery that was previously offered through If This Then That (IFTTT). Services will be integrated iteratively and as such, there is no timeline for completion.

CAN-BIKE Instruction

Due to pandemic restrictions on gatherings in public spaces, no CAN-BIKE lessons were delivered in 2020.

For 2021, The Bikeport has a goal of being able to deliver contact-less instruction, modeled after Dutch cycle training lessons.

Built on the success of last year’s EcoAction program, The Bikeport was a data partner in the BikeBrampton Community Cycling Program, leveraging data Powered by Strava. The continued success of this program will lead to new programs and applications offered by the Bikeport in the future.

Produced a special edition of Bicycles As Transport, including a 360 video virtual tour, to specifically highlight the usefulness of the Vodden Street bike lanes for bicycle trips in accessing:

Tragic Personal News

In October 2020, Kevin Montgomery’s son, Toby, was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer: Fibrolamellar carcinoma. Unfortunately, as is common with diagnosing liver cancer, it wasn’t diagnosed until it had reached an advanced stage with limited treatment options. Toby tragically died on January 2nd, 2021 at the age of 12.

Approximate Donation Value: $133.06

The donation for 2021, $133.06, will be made to The Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation (FCF). The FCF is dedicated to funding research to find viable treatment options and a cure for fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma. 100% of all donations go towards research.

2020’s donation has not been delivered off yet. This was meant to happen in April 2020, but was not able to proceed due to the pandemic lockdown and restrictions on gathering.
